A few years back we all found ourselves spending countless hours on Reddit’ WallStreetBets subreddit searching for the next big trade.
Most of the comments ended up being nonsense.
Some were funny memes.
Others became legends.
One account that has popped up more and more in my trader circle is Serenity (@aleabitoreddit). He/she is a former WSB trader who now has amassed a huge following on X sharing original research on AI infrastructure, semiconductors, optical networking, supply chains, etc.
If you’re paynig attention in AI investing circles you’ve likely seen one of Serenity’s charts, trades ideas, or in depth research threads racking up engagement on X.
What’s different about Serenity is he/she’s not your average finance youtuber.
He/she’s not posting memes, pithy tweets about motivation, or your typical pump n dump stocks comments.
He/she’s gained a following from posting about little known bottlenecks and underfollowed companies prior to they became popular.
From WallStreetBets to X
Reddit appears to have been Serenity’s stomping ground for online investing.
The Reddit account user AleaBito gained attention in the WallStreetBets community by sharing ideas with combative research and high conviction bets.
Based on their Reddit bio, Serenity got banned from WallStreetBets after sharing thoughts on AXT Inc. ($AXTI), a trade that ultimately blew up for them.
Regardless if the banning was cause or not, Serenity soon turned their attention to X.
They happened to be right at the dawn of a new AI infused cycle.
NVIDIA was popping off as the poster child stock of the new AI trend.
Investors were hungry for the next stealth-big winners outside of FAAMG.
While everyone else was buying NVIDIA, Serenity began researching companies beneath the surface AI tech.
Digging into the infrastructure layers powering AI would become their bread and butter.
What Makes Serenity Different?
Most investors begin at the finished good.
Serenity often begins at the bottleneck.
Simple concept, but it changes your investment process entirely.
Instead of focusing on:
“Who is going to win at AI?”
You start asking yourself:
“What is every AI company going to need?”
This immediately forces you to look at suppliers much further down the chain.
Such as:
- Optical networking companies
- Advanced packaging companies
- Memory infrastructure companies
- Data center power companies
- Silicon material companies
- Specialized semiconductor companies
- AI Cloud Infrastructure companies
The benefit of this approach became clearer as we watched AI investments flood across the market.
Most investors piled exclusively into NVIDIA. But here at Serenity, dug into the ecosystem being created to support AI computing.
The result was we began attracting readers seeking unique insights.
The AI Supply Chain Obsession
One trait I think Serenity developed traction is his/her comfort discussing technical topics that retail investors often overlook.
Scroll through any of her threads and you’ll see patterns:
- AI Data Centers
- Optical Connectivity
- High Bandwidth Memory
- Semiconductor Manufacturing
- RISC-V Ecosystems
- Cloud Infrastructure
- Network Bottlenecks
….
You can even see it in his/her X bio where he/her refers as an AI / semiconductor supply chain analyst. Experience includes time working in the RISC-V ecosystem and PhD research.
This background explains why her posts often sound less like traditional investing writing.
The majority of finance X accounts post about chasing earnings.
Serenity will often dissect how we think about the engineering bottlenecks of future demand.
In AI stocks these constraints are often where the largest opportunities exist.
The NeoCloud Thesis
One of Serenity’s best-known investment theses has been what they call the “NeoCloud” thesis.
Simply put, it’s about finding companies that stand to gain from enormous AI infrastructure expenditures outside of the hyperscalers themselves.
Instead of just purchasing NVIDIA, Microsoft, Amazon, or Google, this thesis buys into secondary plays across the AI supply chain.
Serenity has publicly called out companies in the following sectors:
- AI cloud infrastructure companies
- High performance computing
- Data center build outs
- Crypto miners looking to pivot to AI workloads
- Optical networking suppliers
Investors liked this approach because it offered a way to participate in the giant AI AI trend without overlapping with the mega-cap trade.
Why So Many Investors Follow Serenity
There are thousands of finance accounts out there on X. Few have loyal followings. There are a few reasons why people might enjoy Serenity’s content. Disclaimer: These are just my thoughts.
Research
Threads can be long. They can be dense. They can be technical.
Rather than regurgitate information with basic commentary, you’re presented with well thought out, researched thesis’.
Serious investors tend to flock to those types of posts.
Conviction
A lot of market commentary is hedging back and forth.
Serenity often writes with conviction.
You might agree with the thesis. You might not. But you have to respect high conviction.
Transparency
One thing I hear often from followers is that Serenity is always posting his/her current positions along with his/her thought process behind them.
This holds Serenity accountable. You as an investor can look back and see how the thesis played out.
Getting Ideas Before They’re “Popular”
This might be the biggest reason why people follow Serenity.
Many believe he/she finds pure, actionable ideas before Wall Street fully discounts them.
That’s every investors dream.
The Performance Claims
Serenity is another poster-boy trader online who’s claimed impressive returns and subsequently attracted both believers and doubters.
Believers have touted his/her calls on AI infrastructure and semicon related-names.
Doubters have asked if claimed returns are reflective of actual portfolio returns.
Last week there was chatter on X about unsubstantiated life changing returns on AI supply chain trades.
Whether you come down on one side or the other, the bottom line lesson is:
Don’t purchase a stock because an influencer bought it.
Regardless of how many times they’ve been right in the past, evaluate every thesis on its own merits.
That goes for Serenity.
That goes for hedge fund managers.
That goes for every investor sharing their opinions online.
What Investors Can Learn From Serenity
The stock picks may not be the most valuable thing.
The framework to do your own research might be.
Most retail investors are headline buyers.
Serenity shifts your mindset.
Look for Bottlenecks
The biggest winners in a trend are rarely obvious.
They’re often suppliers that enable the trend.
Trace Supply Chains
Everything is connected.
Figure out who’s supplying what to whom early.
Read Between the Lines
Most investors stop at the earnings release.
The real meat is in engineering white papers, technical presentations, and third-party industry research.
Have Your Own Conviction
The best investors all develop trust in their own research process.
Copying somebody else can help you find ideas.
But you have to do the work yourself to have conviction.
Final Thoughts
If you consider Serenity a cutting-edge AI supply chain analyst, a dangerous gambler, or just a cute duck playing in the markets, one thing is for certain: You can’t talk about investing on X these days without talking about the account.
From meme-stock WallStreetBets poster to AI investing luminary with over 0.5 million followers, Serenity’s journey underscores a broader trend happening in today’s markets.
Biggest ideas in finance used to come exclusively from Wall Street. Today, they’re increasingly being generated by independent analysts, engineers, and investors who pour hundreds of hours of effort into understanding hyper-niche areas of the market.
Serenity’s success is a testament to the value of deep, technical research in an age where AI is transforming entire sectors. For investors looking to follow in its wake, don’t spend your time trying to mimic trades. Instead, seek to mimic curiosity.
After all, markets reward those who find important, true insights before everyone else catches on. Serenity is doing just that.
