They come from seeing where the world is going before everyone else does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two years ago, I wasn\u2019t trying to catch every hot stock tip or trade every market swing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, I asked myself one question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat will the world look like five years from today?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That question changed everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the last two years, my portfolio grew by more than $1 million. Revenue multiples. Discounted cash flows. Price to sales ratios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those metrics are useful. Don\u2019t get me wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They matter far less if you\u2019re evaluating a company within a slow-growth industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The largest winners over each generation tend to win because they ride on top of massive secular trends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What were some of the previous generational trends?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Smartphones \ud83d\udcf1<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cloud Computing \u2601\ufe0f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>E-commerce \ud83d\udecd\ufe0f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Social Media \ud83d\udcf7<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Electric Vehicles \ud83d\udd0b<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice how investors didn\u2019t necessarily \u201cpick\u201d the perfect company to own within each theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, they bought companies that operated within each theme\u2019s winning ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"1-artificial-intelligence-%E2%98%81%EF%B8%8F\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Artificial Intelligence \u2601\ufe0f<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AI is transitioning from software trend to new infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pretty soon, every industry will be \u201cadopting\u201d AI, creating enormous demand for GPUs, networking equipment, memory, data centres and software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sure, companies like NVIDIA may benefit. So do companies building AI software, companies providing infrastructure AI companies use and companies that build machines AI will control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"2-space-economy-\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Space Economy \ud83d\ude80<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I started researching space companies, nobody talked about space infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SpaceX launches were celebrated. Satellite internet excited investors. But space infrastructure was overlooked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, reusable rockets, satellite internet, space-based defense and space infrastructure are billion-dollar industries with room to grow for decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"3-next-generation-electric-vehicles-\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Next Generation Electric Vehicles \ud83d\udd0b\ud83d\ude97<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The EV story is far from over. We\u2019re just getting started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Companies like Xiaomi may not be the biggest EV manufacturer ten years from now. The Best Investments Usually Feel Uncomfortable<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s a reason why so many investors missed Amazon\u2019s growth early on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When everyone thinks a stock is amazing, most of the upside has already been priced in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some of the largest returns came when investors were still sceptical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investing doesn\u2019t mean buying bad companies during market dips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It means recognising great businesses before others realise it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s why being contrarian pays off. Not because it\u2019s cool to buy \u201c unpopular stocks .\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Contrarian investing is about looking beyond crowd sentiment to find truths the market is missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And when that happens, great opportunities exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"5-3-think-five-years-ahead-not-five-months\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Think Five Years Ahead, Not Five Months<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most investors worry about short-term events too much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Interest rates<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Earnings season<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inflation prints<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While short-term events matter to traders, investors have a different focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What industries will be bigger tomorrow?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The truth is\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Markets don\u2019t punish companies that provide magnificently for society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They may punish you the next few days if rates rise or inflation prints higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But if you invest in companies with decade-long growth opportunities, the stock price will eventually follow as revenue continues to grow year after year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s why whenever I think of new investments, I picture myself writing this 2 years later:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPaid $X for this company five years ago. Now it\u2019s worth $Y. Here\u2019s why I bought it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If my explanation sounds stupid to me, I don\u2019t buy the stock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If I can easily explain it to myself as if I already made the returns, I know I\u2019m thinking long-term enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"6-4-cut-your-losses-faster-than-your-ego\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Cut Your Losses Faster Than Your Ego<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019ve wasted far too much money following this lesson:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investors get attached to their investments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We start defending them instead of admitting when we\u2019re wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We look for reasons why our investments might work instead of objectively analysing new information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I used to think that good investors were patient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Patience isn\u2019t refusing to sell a stock you hate holding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Patience is only holding stocks while the business fundamentals that made you buy them remain intact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If executives mess up consistently\u2026 Problems justify holding if they were temporary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your thesis no longer exists\u2026 Sell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Often times, selling a stock feels like you\u2019re giving up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But admitting mistakes quickly is the best way to protect your portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It allows you to buy again far better opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"7-5-winners-can-keep-winning\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. It\u2019s time to sell and realise my profits.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But what if that stock goes up another 5x?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Smart investors let their winners run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the company continues growing revenue at an accelerating rate, stays true to its core competencies and industry tailwinds remain intact, there\u2019s usually no need to sell yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asking \u201cHow much more can this stock rise?\u201d is often less important than asking:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHas anything changed with my original investment thesis?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your answer is no, hold longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"8-6-ignore-short-term-noise\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Ignore Short-Term Noise<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s a reason why so many investors trade around earnings seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stay focused on long-term trends and your portfolio won\u2019t care about quarterly market noise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tariffs Paid?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interest rates rising?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fed will cut rates\u2026<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Political headlines\u2026<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Economic doomsday predictions\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of these stories end up forgotten within weeks. But in the short-term, markets react as if they\u2019re permanent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While stocks fluctuate based on hourly news, great companies stay focused on building for the long-term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s why I pay way less attention to financial news and way more time studying annual reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At this stage of my investing journey, I rarely \u201ctrade\u201d stocks based on short-term market fluctuations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"9-7-do-your-research-before-you-invest\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Do Your Research Before You Invest<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investing with high conviction doesn\u2019t mean being overly confident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It means being prepared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you fully understand a company you invest in, you won\u2019t panic sell during market downturns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You already know why you bought it. You know the risks. I bought Nebius because I knew AI globally was going mainstream. And companies like Nebius were going to benefit from rising AI adoption rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"12-amprius-technologies-ampx\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Amprius Technologies (AMPX)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Battery density is arguably one of the largest growth bottlenecks for drones, aerospace, automotive and advanced mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While most investors were focused on individual EV manufacturers, I wanted to invest earlier where technology was still being proven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If Amprius can prove its technology, you don\u2019t just benefit from cars. You benefit from industries like advanced mobility, drones and aerospace. The applications are endless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Disclosure: I no longer hold AMPX as a core position as of this writing.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"13-rocket-lab-rklb\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rocket Lab (RKLB)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I believed in the long-term vision of Rocket Lab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commercial space is still in the early stages. Everywhere I looked; there was growth in Launch Services, satellite deployment services and defence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rocket Lab isn\u2019t just a rocket company. It\u2019s building infrastructure to become a full-stack space company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"14-palantir-pltr\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Palantir (PLTR)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Palantir was severely misunderstood for a long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the time performance caught up, PLTR was already too expensive for me to buy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But had I ignored price and focussed on what Palantir was building; I could\u2019ve bought years before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Palantir isn\u2019t just middleware. It\u2019s embedded across government, defense and enterprise systems. Not to mention, positioning itself for the age of AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"15-xiaomi\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Xiaomi<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When most people think of Xiaomi, they think of smartphones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019ve read my writings, you\u2019d know I\u2019ve been following Xiaomi for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I see an ecosystem company with immense engineering talent stepping into one of the world\u2019s largest industries: Intelligent mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Xiaomi doesn\u2019t have to become the next Tesla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If it leverages its competitive advantages, it has the potential to build an entire ecosystem of intelligent hardware products. Which companies are building the future?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I no longer spend hours looking at price targets or valuations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, I ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWill this stock still be worth buying if it\u2019s 50% more expensive?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the answer is yes, I know I\u2019m investing with a long-term horizon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"17-closing-thoughts\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Closing Thoughts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I wish I could tell you that I stumbled upon a secret formula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Truth is, I didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Increasing my portfolio by over S$1 million happened because I changed my investing approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Slowly but surely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I stopped chasing market trends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I asked myself hard questions about the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And most importantly, I stopped investing based on near-term price movements and speculation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investing is a long-term game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Try to understand where the world is going next decade, not tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">True winners in the stock market rarely look obvious today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My piece of advice to anyone looking to build their portfolio:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Don\u2019t invest in companies.
